DIRECT AND INDIRECT PATHWAYS FROM EDUCATION TO COGNITIVE FUNCTIONING AMONG OLDER BRAZILIANS

Abstract Cognitive impairment in Brazil is a growing population health concern. Studies suggest that may have one of the highest age-standardized prevalence Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) world. However, improving education attainment among older adults lead to decline cognitive across coming years. The purpose this study examine pathways link educational functioning Brazil, highly unequal, resource rich society. I use 2016 Brazilian Longitudinal Study Aging, nationally representative 50+. linear regression models predict overall as well specific domains cognition (memory vs. non-memory). Preliminary findings provide evidence both indirect direct from functioning. pathways, however, were only found for with 8+ years education.
